Glad I was able to help you guys a tiny bit with that sneaky Muscovie at Salineno. I've done several big years in the past, always on a tight budget (it helps to travel for work a bit!). I'm off to Cape May next week. Part of another work trip, but hope to get a bit of birding in. Hope you have a great time in Florida and a great and successful big year! It is nice to know that the hawks are on their way north. I was just doing a general Internet search to see if anyone had posted anything about migrating broad-winged hawks. I am a volunteer for the Raptor Nest Survey in the Cleveland Metroparks in NE Ohio. We find and monitor birds of prey nests in the parks. I have only been doing this for three years; but, I really enjoy it. Last year I was lucky to find and watch two broad-winged hawk nests. One reason I was able to find them was that some more experienced birders told me that the broad-winged hawks return to this area on April 15th. They were correct. That is when I saw them flying and calling above their nesting areas. Maybe some of the broad-winged hawks you saw are headed this way. Have a great year!
